A Cumbrian dance tutor is set to choreograph the opening ceremony of the 2024 UEFA Women's Champions League Final.

Kelly McClelland from Penrith-based Eden Dance will travel to Bilbao this month ahead of the final between defending European champions FC Barcelona Femeni and Olympique Lyonnais Féminin.

This will come months after the Cumbria tutor also choreographed the opening ceremony of the Premiership Rugby clash between Saracens and Harlequins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London

On the pitch, Jonatan Giráldez and The Best FIFA Women's Player 2023 Aitana Bonmati will take on Sonia Bompastor's Lyon, however off it Kelly will be looking to get her cast of 44 dancers ready.

Ahead of the opening ceremony, Kelly expressed her excitement at being able to bring UEFA's vision to life.

"I am ready, prepped, and raring to go," She said.

"I will have five days rehearsal with a group of 44 young dancers from Bilbao to create the Opening Ceremony based on the Basque region with nods to their culture through the dance but ultimately bringing UEFAs vision of the women's game 'all roads lead to one crown' which I will show in a cathartic ending to the choreography as the teams walk onto pitch."

Kelly also discussed how honoured she feels after being asked by UEFA to return to the Champions League Final after choreographing the opening ceremony in 2023.

She said: "It's such an honour to be asked back to create this special moment.

"It's a big responsibility but I've got a great team around me and I've been practicing my Spanish so I'm really looking forward to the whole experience."
