A MAN with an empty snap bag that had contained cocaine said he ‘didn’t even know it was in his pocket’.
Scott Hannon, 27, was stop-searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act in Whitehaven on March 31, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant was found to be in possession of a controlled drug. Pregabalin tablets were then found at his address. The drug found on his person was positive for cocaine.
Hannon was interviewed by police and said the snap bag was his. He wouldn’t say where he got it from.
He said the Pregabalin was his and was prescribed to him.
Hannon, who was not legally represented, told the court: “I snapped my arm about six months ago. I ended up on strong painkillers for it.
“The snap bag was empty. I didn’t even know I had it in my pocket.”
Hannon, of Wastwater Avenue, Workington, pleaded guilty to possessing a Class A drug and possessing a Class C drug.
Magistrates fined the defendant £140. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £56 victim surcharge.
