Residents of Lanercost House Care Home in Carlisle are battling to win Barchester Healthcare's national Easter cake competition.

Earlier this year, Barchester Healthcare, which operates 250 care homes and private hospitals across the country, launched the culinary contest across its sites.

Lanercost House, along with its counterparts nationwide, has been a hive of creative cooking as residents and staff strove for a prize-winning cake design.

The aim is to create a scrumptious cake that encapsulates the themes and flavours of Easter.

Emily Stubbs, activities coordinator at Lanercost House, said: "We’ve all had such a brilliant time taking part in this competition, it has been such fun.

"Our staff and residents love to bake so when they heard about the competition, they were all so excited to take part.

"It has been a real collaborative process - thinking about the ingredients and the design.

"Not to mention all the delicious different versions we have had to taste over the last few weeks, it really has been no hardship and we can’t wait to find out what the judges think of our entry."

Lanercost House Care Home, managed by Barchester Healthcare, offers nursing care, residential care, dementia care and respite care.
